After receiving a BA in Philosophy from Berea College, Jeanne Marie was a researcher and writer for the Mountain Association for Community Economic Development (MACED). That job led her to spend the next two decades working with communities, nonprofits, civic groups and businesses, primarily in Kentucky and Appalachia. Her experience includes public policy research, program management, fundraising, public relations, marketing and program evaluation.
In 1995, Jeanne Marie returned to work at MACED, as director of its Sustainable Communities program. A few years later she co-founded a nonprofit dedicated to spreading sustainable development practices nationally and internationally. In 1999, she was selected as one of 44 “Kentucky Leaders for the New Century” by Leadership Kentucky, and in 2010, she became a member of the Leadership Kentucky Class of 2010.
Jeanne Marie joined the Settlement School staff in 2005. Prior to that she served as director of the Appalachian Fund and coordinator of the Entrepreneurship for the Public Good program at Berea College. She has also worked with Berea College’s development office.
Jeanne Marie is certified by the National Development Council as an Economic Development Finance Professional. She earned a Certificate in Fund Raising Management from The Fund Raising School at the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University and has led workshops on nonprofit fundraising.
