Hindman Settlement School donor clubs provide a way to recognize donors who have made significant contributions in support of the Settlement School’s mission. In addition to other forms of recognition, donor club members are recognized annually in our Donor Report. The following donor clubs recognize cumulative gifts made by individual donors.

May Stone Society May Stone was a cofounder of Hindman Settlement School and served as the school’s director from 1902 until her death in 1946. The final check May Stone wrote before her death eliminated the indebtedness of the Settlement School—a fitting tribute to a woman who was responsible for much of the growth and financial stability of the School. The May Stone Society recognizes individuals who have contributed $100,000 or more in cumulative gifts during their lifetime or through planned giving. Membership may include a donor’s spouse. Gifts from family foundations created by the wealth of one individual/spouse may be counted toward individual membership. Donors who met the criteria by 2008 are considered Founding Members. |

Elizabeth Watts Society Elizabeth Watts arrived at Hindman Settlement School in 1909 with the intent of teaching for a year or two. She ended up serving the school for 84 years, as a teacher, principal, assistant to May Stone, director of the Settlement School and board member. Miss Watts is buried on the Settlement School campus. The Elizabeth Watts Society recognizes individuals who have contributed $50,000 or more in cumulative gifts since 1992. Where records are sufficient to document contributions, gifts made prior to 1992 will be considered. Membership may include a donor’s spouse. Donors who met the criteria by 2008 are considered Founding Members. |
