Hindman Settlement School operates dyslexia education programs for children and provides training and support to parents and teachers of children who learn differently. These programs include the Summer Tutoring Program, an After-School Tutoring program and the new Reading Lab Partnership, a collaborative effort with Knott County public schools, launched in 2009.
All children must be evaluated prior to becoming eligible for a program.
Using teaching methods proven to benefit students with dyslexia, the Settlement School has served thousands of students and their parents since the program began.
Research suggests that people with dyslexia are often of average to above-average intelligence. They just process information differently. Hindman Settlement School believes investing in these young people is a long-term strategy that has and will continue to benefit the region.
Non-Discriminatory Policy
Hindman Settlement School admits people of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school-administered programs.
