August Vineyard Bowl (Lg)

Michael Ware

This beautiful August Vineyard bowl measures approximately 11.25 inches in diameter and is 3.5 inches tall. It highlights Michael Ware's unique carving style in which he imitates the traditional woodcarvings of the Appalachian Region and features grapes which are grown locally.  MICHAEL WARE received a bachelor’s degree in art education from Millersville University in Millersville, PA in 1974 and a master’s degree from Morehead State University in Morehead in 1987. He is currently on the faculty at Alice Lloyd College in Pippa Passes, where he has taught art since 1992. In addition, he is an adjunct faculty member at the Hazard Community College evening art program and at the Hindman Settlement School in Hindman, KY. He has been a member of the Kentucky Crafts Marketing program since 1999 and is active in the arts community in and around Hindman. Michael has been creating pottery pieces for over 30 years. He gets the inspiration for his unique designs from the ‘traditional’ crafts from the Appalachian region. For the texture on his pieces he gets insight from the traditional wood carvers and his folk art designs from the things like dulcimers. His creative ideas come from the local flora and vegetation with his April Dogwood, September Orchard and August Vineyard designs. He uses mainly earth tones in his pottery. He subtly tries to imitate the local mountain ranges utilizing 2 tone glazes on some of his pieces. It is a privilege to own quality, Michael Ware pottery that is original and wears the prestigious ‘Kentucky Crafted’ label.
