He gets the inspiration for his unique designs from the ‘traditional’ crafts from the Appalachian region. For the texture on his pieces he gets insight from the traditional wood carvers and his folk art designs from the things like dulcimers. His creative ideas come from the local flora and vegetation with his April Dogwood, September Orchard and August Vineyard designs. He uses mainly earth tones in his pottery. He subtly tries to imitate the local mountain ranges utilizing 2 tone glazes on some of his pieces.
