A wonderful combination of two books!  In How We talked , Mrs. Slone shares reflections on her native language to promote a greater understanding of the vital elements of mountain life, focusing on family and community, food, work, nature and faith. Also included in this book is Common Folks which was originally printed in 1979 and is a autobiography of her life in Knott Co. Kentucky during the turn of the century! Mrs. Slone shares anecdotes and personal stories and speaks on topics from education and family life to the impact of coal mining. This is 322 pages of mountain history and folklore from a wonderful lady who lived her life in Appalachia and truly loved it!
