If you are new, the following information maybe useful in preparing for your workshop experience.
Dress
Our campus is spread out, so bring comfortable shoes. Dress is casual, but shirts and shoes are required. Activities may be both inside and outside, so bring adequate clothing for both. It can be cool in the evening. Layers work well. If it is really hot, you may want more than one change of clothes per day.
Facilities
All buildings are air-conditioned. There is wireless Internet access in the May Stone and Stucky buildings. The Knott County Public Library has public computers available with Internet access. The Appalachian Artisan Center (downtown, near the Quiltmaker Inn) also has wireless Internet access. We have a filtered water system at the dining hall and now have a new source for our public water supply, so for the first time in a long time, the tap water is drinkable!
Housing
Most of the housing has shared bathrooms, so you may need a robe. There are no phones in housing areas. Cell phone coverage is spotty to good, depending on your service provider. You can leave the main office number 606.785.5475 as an emergency contact number. It is staffed during business hours. After business hours, if there is an emergency, they can call 606.438.5455.
