What’s it like—being born again?
It’s going back to what you were before
without losing what you’ve since become.
Jim Wayne Miller
excerpt from The Brier Sermon
For nearly half a century, Hindman Settlement School has gathered writers from across Appalachia at the Forks of Troublesome Creek to foster a close-knit literary community. While historic, the Settlement’s aging campus is in need of revitalization to meet the changing needs of the region and our school. A nod to the Brier, these necessary renovations will allow a renewed Settlement to move forward in its mission of service to central Appalachia without losing our rich cultural heritage.
By becoming a member of the Brier Assembly, writers can support the rebirth of the Settlement’s facilities and ensure the institution’s ability to cultivate the next generation of Appalachian writers while leaving a legacy on this historic campus and receiving exclusive recognition opportunities!
