CSA Farm Share
Hindman Settlement School’s Forks of Troublesome Foods is a Community Supported Agriculture farm, or CSA. A CSA is a vibrant movement of small-scale farmers and the local community joining forces. In essence, community members “shareholders” purchase shares of their farm’s harvest in advance of the growing season. The advance purchase gives farmers more financial security and local consumers a good deal on fresh, locally grown produce they receive from a farm they come to know.
At Hindman Settlement School, the logistics are simple: your household becomes a shareholder in our farm. Then we fill our greenhouse and farm fields with crops grown specifically for shareholders, harvested fresh each week at their peak of ripeness. Each week, you’ll meet our farm staff at the Knott County Farmers’ Market (Tuesday evenings between 5:00-7:00pm). The contents of each week’s share will vary based on the week and the weather, but will always include a variety of fresh, locally-grown produce with a market value in excess of the share cost.
About Our CSA
The 2019 season runs for 13 weeks, from June 4 – August 27, 2019.
Farm shares are $20/week and provide an assortment of fruits and vegetables each week for small to medium-sized families.
For your convenience, you can either pay for your share in full (and receive a $10 discount on the total cost!) or opt to have your account automatically charged weekly installments once deliveries begin in June.
Your CSA can be picked up at the Knott County Farmers’ Market located at 56 Education Lane in Hindman, Kentucky on Tuesday evenings between 5:00-7:00pm.
As a CSA member you’ll enjoy fresh, seasonal foods for an entire season. Weekly items vary, but could include: corn, beans, leaf lettuce, broccoli, beets, potatoes, tomatoes, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, squash, zucchini, cucumbers, kale, onions, peas, spinach, peppers, turnips, mustard greens, herbs, and other items.
By purchasing a CSA share, you enter into a contract with Forks of Troublesome Foods/Hindman Settlement School, and are entitled to all 13 weeks of produce. We cannot refund unwanted produce, but you are welcome to trade your share with other members or get someone else to pick it up when you cannot. Weekly shares that are not picked up will be donated.
